Employee Story – Giving Back

Irvine, California – The Mission of NCL, Inc. is to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences.

My name is Mona Amin, working at BIT Group USA. One of my passions is to “Give Back” to my community and make a positive impact in peoples lives. Now that my daughter, Nadia (age 15), became a teenager, I wanted to get her involved in volunteering in various Philanthropies as well.

We were fortunate to find an organization called National Charity League (NCL, Inc.). The Mission of NCL, Inc. is to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences. Through NCL the mother-daughter relationship, develops strong women leaders serving and impacting communities today and for generations to come.

This organization core values such honoring the mother-daughter bond by learning together, growing and modeling responsibility and graciousness, empowering women with the skills and confidence to lead, nurturing through mentorship, providing depth of support in local communities and many more is what drew me to this organization.
Nadia and I are part of the Vista Irvine NCL supporting over 22 philanthropic service partners through different volunteer activities. Each year our Chapter contributes over 3000 service hours to our community. My daughter and I have volunteered 100 + combined hours in 2017. We also participate in unique chapter wide service projects including: Annual Sewing Bee for UCI Childlife, Families Forward Food Drive, UCI ChildLife Holiday Party, Operation Valentine, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, March of Dimes Baby Walk and many more.

My daughter and I enjoy the Annual Sewing Bee most. Our Chapter volunteers to purchase fabric and sew pillow cases for children with long term illness and have extended stays at the hospital. Upon check-in the young patients get to pick out a couple of personalized cases for their stay which they get to keep. Nadia enjoys going to the fabric store to pick out unique and fun designs to make the pillow cases. She has even learned how to sew.

Finally, what I was most intrigued by and was an added bonus, joining NCL was the leadership skills they provide our young daughters. Each year the girl’s class elects officers and appoints board members. They follow parliamentary procedure at their monthly meetings. By the time graduate high school, they have developed a full repertoire of leadership skills that prepare them to be leaders on their college campuses and in the workplace.

As a future leader, this will help Nadia strive to build stronger ties with our communities and the individuals within them. It is through this understanding that we grow and develop broader worldviews that will shape and support our lives.
